Teaser Week Day 5

Teaser Week:
Day 5: Science, Technology & Invention
Activity 1: The Social Network
For this activity, please think about what you have learned in class about being cybersmart.
On your blog provide five rules that people should follow when sharing pictures and/or streaming videos online.
1. Don't share your address, last name, number or just any personal information.
2. Don't share passwords with anyone.
3. Don't trust strangers online.
4. Be on the right thing at the right time.
5. Be respectful to other people online.

Activity 2: Impossible burgers
For this activity it is your job to read the nutritional facts about these burgers and to work out the difference between the two burgers in the following areas:
  1. Calories
  2. % Daily Value of Saturated Fat
  3. % Daily Value of Sodium (salt)
On your blog, share your results. You can use the following three sentences as a guide.
The New Impossible Burger
Calories:
The New Impossible Burger has 50 less calories than the original impossible Burger.
Daily Value of Saturated Fat:
The New Impossible Burger has 30% less of the daily value of saturated fat than the original impossible Burger.

Daily Value of Sodium (Salt):
The new Impossible Burger has 9% less of the daily value of sodium than the original impossible Burger.

The Original Impossible Burger
Calories:
The Original Impossible Burger has 50 more calories then the New Impossible Burger.
Daily Value of Saturated Fat:
The Original Impossible Burger has 30% more of the daily value of saturated fat then the New Impossible Burger.
Daily Value of Sodium:
The Original Impossible Burger has 9% more of the daily value of sodium than the New Impossible Burger.

Activity 3: Choose your own
For this activity, choose one person and read all about them.
On your blog, provide us with:
  1. The name of the person
  2. A description of the work they do/have done
  3. An explanation of how they/their work has had an impact on the lives of others

1. Keith Alexander

2. Keith and a few of his graduate students created a spring-free trampoline in 1987 because his wife is scared their kids might get injured from the springs. He created a trampoline without springs that pinches you, instead of springs, Keith is also a engineer, Keith decided to use rods as springs that don't hurt you and that are diagonally from the metal frame and it supports a mat underneath so that anyone bouncing on it can't land between the springs and hit the frame. They aren't sure if it still shocks you when getting of the trampoline on a hot day.

3. By creating a trampoline with no springs, Keith has definitely inspired parents to buy the spring-free trampoline. I feel like the parents have brought the trampoline because they want their kids to be safe and don't get pinched by the metal springs.

Teaser Week Day 4

Teaser Week:
Day 4: Politics and Activism
Activity 1: Leading the Charge
For this activity, let’s imagine that, like Helen, you are hired to lead an organisation. In this case, you are hired to be the principal of your school for one week. How exciting?! What changes would you introduce? Would you make the school day longer? Would you introduce daily trips to the swimming pool?
On your blog, list five changes that you would make to your school if you were hired to be the principal for one week.
1. After morning and lunch break, I would allow the kids to be calmed down by videos called Cosmic Kids Yoga (Aka Peace Out). I feel that kids need to be calmed down because after break kids are always running around the classrooms and always seem to distract other students from their learning. Sometimes kids are too hyped up and sometimes teachers can't handle that.

2. If I was a principal for a week, I would want the year 8s and 7s to go on a trip before they leave to go to college. Maybe even go camp or skate land or to the pools, something that the students would enjoy and never forget. I would want to do this because I want the students to have a little fun before they go college.

3. I would make the school days shorter like around 2:45 because I feel that students just want to go home early and maybe go back home and have more rest after school. I also think finishing school early would be interesting.

4. I would make the breaks a little bit more longer because I love it when the kids are playing around and running, it makes me happy. I think having longer breaks will definitely make the kids more happy, it will allow kids to have more time to play or eat.

5. I would want the children to celebrate every culture just by wearing the cultural clothes or bring the cultural food and share it with everyone.

Activity 2: Fighting for freedom
For this activity, please think about an issue you would protest over (non-violently, of course!).
On your blog, explain the issue clearly and tell us why it is so important to you.
Bullying is a issue that I really hate and I see it happen mostly everyday. Bullying is dangerous because it can lead people to think that they are worthless or even worse than that which is commit suicide, bullying hurts people's feelings, it leads people to depression which is not good. This is so important to me because I hate seeing people's feelings get destroyed and I also hate that they are not happy, I hate it to see people unhappy. It is better to see people when they are happy and smiling, I am happy when they are happy.

Activity 3:Mass Migration
For this activity, let’s imagine that Donald Trump called you up and asked for your opinion on this controversial issue.
On your blog, please tell us what you think about his plan to build a wall between the USA and Mexico. Is it a good idea or a bad idea? Why do you think so?
I think that this is a bad idea because Donald Trump is separating the Mexican people and the American people, there is nothing wrong with mixing Mexican and American people together. I also think that this is a bad idea because the Mexican people just wants to visit USA because there might families in America. I really hate that the Mexican people had to walk all the way to America and most of them can't even get in to  America because they need permission, I also hate the fact that they had nowhere to sleep, it hurts my heart. I hate the way that Donald Trump is treating the Mexican people, everyone should be treated just like how they want to be treated.

Teaser Week Day 3

Teaser Week:
Day 3: Environment and Exploration
Activity 1: The Rainman of Rajasthan

For this activity, please watch this short introductory video from The Water Project.
On your blog, share what you have learned about The Water Project with us. What is the goal of the organisation? Where do they work? What have they achieved?

From the Water Project, I have learnt that the water that they desperately need is right below them. The Water Project can allow them to drink clean and safe water by constructing a underground well or even wait to rain and collect all that fresh water, they can also dig small sand dams to capture water too. The goal of the organisation is to allow people drink clean safe water because with water it can help you get through mostly everything, Another goal is to help the community to improve their health because of diseases. They have achieved clean and safe water, healthy and clean hands and body to keep the diseases away, their health is probably getting better.

Activity 2: When the Rubber Hits the Road
For this activity, please interview three friends and ask them what they are most proud of. It could be something that they, or someone in their family, have accomplished.
On your blog, please share who these people were (first names only) and what they were proud of.

Limi:
I am proud of myself focusing on my work and accomplishing my work on time and my goals, I am also proud of being able to express myself through my blog post and being confident through my blog.
Malia:
I am proud that I have more knowledge in me and I am also proud that I have achieved my goals for this year, I am also proud that I have done more work than last year because I didn't do that much work last year, I am also proud that I have got into less trouble because I have been concentrating on my work and important things.
Faye:
I am proud of ignoring all the distractions that people have made, I am also proud of ignoring all the things that is not good for my learning or even for myself. I am also proud of standing up for myself and having a voice that people need to hear.

Activity 3: The Columbian Exchange
For this activity, please think of someone who has had a positive impact on your life. Who is this person? What did they do that was positive?
On your blog, please tell us about this person.
My father has a job at New World in North Shore and I think he works at the back and organise things at the back. My father has a positive impact on my life, he goes to work everyday and no matter how tired he is, he never gives up, he is never stops. He always inspires me to keep working hard like him and never stop, I always try my best because of him and I never give up like him.

1. You will be well known for something that you like to play/do.
2. You get to learn new tricks or new ways to win because you have been competing with other people, and you can develop new skills and become a strong chess player.
3. Chess can make you rich and famous.

Cons:
1. Someone would always want to challenge you.
2. Some people make less money (Which is not what they want to do).
3. You can gamble in Chess and you might get addicted to Chess or even gambling.

Teaser Week Day 2

Teaser Week:
Day 2: Sport and Leisure
Activity 2: Equal pay for Equal work?

For this activity, please think about this issue of the gender pay gap carefully. It is quite controversial (some people agree with it and some people disagree with it).
On your blog, tell us what you think. Is it fair? Why or why not? Be sure to explain exactly why you feel the way that you do.

I think that the Black Ferns making small money is not fair because people are playing is paying for them to be in the team and they are working hard for that money and they just get less money than they are supposed to. I also disagree because the Black Ferns do much work as the All Blacks and many other hard-working teams, so I think that the Black Ferns need to be treated like the All Blacks.
